Geophysical Fluid Dynamics (GFD)
Illig S. and N. Hall,
2025: Geophysical Fluid Dynamics. Course Material for Master 2 Sciences de l’Océan, de l’Atmosphère et du Climat (SOAC), Toulouse (France) & Cotonou (Benin).
Description: This is a Master-level course in Geophysical Fluid Dynamics (GFD).
This course presents a selection of theoretical content on fluid dynamics in a rotating stratified environment. The objective of the course is to present a unified framework for understanding the dynamics of the atmosphere and ocean, with examples drawn from each. It is assumed that the reader already has some knowledge of the governing equations and is familiar with the Coriolis force.
The material is written and illustrated by Serena Illig, based on Nick Hall's lecture courses. Videos of the lectures are available on Nick's YouTube channel
